I love to dance, but in the weather we had until yesterday, you kind of wish the party was in a pool. Saturday night, Cassette NYC had a killer event at Public Assembly, with LD dropping a mix of dubstep's greatest hits from the last year or two - heavy on the Joker - interspersed with newer, garage heavy cuts. I was sweating my ass off, and so was the relatively packed house. But the turnout was amazing; it really feels like bass in NYC has a dedicated, into it bunch of people really into the scene. A family, if you will. I like that.
On to the news...What started last summer as a therapeutic side project for Praveen and Machinedrum has begun bubbling up on the international dance music radar. Tonight on her BBC1 Experimental Show, the Queen of Bass music, Mary Ann Hobbs premiers an exclusive mix by Sepalcure. This series is the litmus test for our scene; sets from Breakage, dnb producer Amit, Burial, Amon Tobin, Kryptic Minds, Vaccine, and, recently, Addison Groove have literally defined the outer boundaries of the electronic music spectrum for years. Ms. Hobbs is known for her unflagging support for the fringes of dance music, and her ability to bring those esoteric elements into focus in a way that moves this culture forward, week by week. It's gonna be a hell of a mix. Congrats guys, the future is now.
As for me and my condition, the weather has been brutal, no? Today's drop in temperature is a welcome relief; life feels 100% more stressful when you're dripping sweat before you even get on the subway. I have mentioned before feeling like time is flying with no way to stop it or make the adjustments you feel might be necessary to assure yourself a more perfect future; heat accelerates that. The manic schedule of the summer - the need to pack in as much fun as possible while it's nice outside - exacerbate that feeling of, well, losing touch. What am I saying? Slow down. This mix right here is good. So is this one. We have over 1100 mixes on here, so remember to dig.
Talk to you soon?
