Embassy Recordings' most recent signing, Atlanta's Broodlings, drop this mix of uptempo goodness on the eve of their debut release for the label, the 'Hood Rat Stuff' EP
. Featuring a now legendary sample of a young (I think my dude was 9 at the time?) hood rat explaining his personal philosophy after getting caught for stealing a car, the tune provides a crunked up take on Chicago's juke sound.
This mix explores similar territory, marrying juke's hyper tempo and paranoid world view to the group's Southern sensibility with nods to trap music (DJ Manny's All I Do Is (Smoke Trees), on Planet Mu) and rnb (the duo's own 'Honey'), and beyond. Frenetic, yet thoughtful, this is the group's first guest mix, and hints at lots to come. Dubs for days yo.
We also caught up with Broodlings' Bretson Mann on the interview tip. Check it.
