The Bunker's Derek Plaslaiko has been a staple of the NYC Techno scene since he relocated here from Detroit in 2004. He's performed at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival multiple times, even being asked by Carl Craig to perform at the inaugural edition, had residencies at the best underground techno events in NYC and toured the globe, consistently bringing his slice of the Motor City wherever he goes. Some of the love he's been getting from the press includes being voted DJ of the year by The Village Voice and landing in the
Next 100 URB listing...
Let me be honest here - this mix is fire. It starts off with one of the funkiest wooden steppin' beats we've heard in recent memory and doesn't let up.
Plaslaiko's selection here doesn't give you much time to rest. African loops, hand drums, searing bass lines and thick, pitched vocals guide you through
Plaslaiko's dark, funky tech. I may be biased, but this is one of the best, most emotive mixes I've ever heard from
Derek - you're gonna be sweating and flailing on that dance floor for sure, but you might even shed a tear or two. The mix features tracks by My My, Adam Marshall, DJ Qu, Reverse Commuter, and some original tracks & remixes by Derek and Kate Simko.
Aside from
Spinoza's impeccable booking and DJing, there's a reason why
The Bunker is NY's top techno party - and that reason is
Derek Plaslaiko. You can catch
Derek performing at multiple events at this year's
Unsound Festival NYC, the first being
The Bunker Edition 1 at Public Assembly, February 5th. Don't sleep - Krakow to NYC.
