You may know
Morgan Packard from his exceptional releases on
Anticipate Recordings & Microcosm Music. Packard's collaborations with
Ezekiel Honig and
Joshue Ott are two of the most exciting musical projects to come out of New York in recent memory and his recent move to Berlin has resulted in even further refinement of his sound.
With roots as a skilled jazz saxophonist,
Morgan Packard has continually connected the seemingly disparate realms of programmatic music and acoustic recordings. These days, he likes to tell me he makes "techno", but to corner his current output in a single genre is a disservice to its finely crafted sound. His sound is characterized by constantly shifting textures, a minimalist approach to rhythm, unconventional use of traditional acoustic instruments, and a trained sensitivity to melody and harmony. While his music is influenced by dub techno, ambient, and other established styles, it is best understood on its own terms, rather than through the lens of genre.
This mix is a recording from his recent performance at Poland's Plateaux festival.
NY misses you Morgan. Come back soon.
