Primus Luta - The Vanguard Vol IV
Small_praveen
This week we pick up where our friends at Rhythm-Incursions left off with the fourth and final volume from Primus Luta's Vanguard series. Part web experiment, part beat anthology, this final mix from the Vanguard series sets the stage for the first single and online installation of his Heads Project.

From Fela Kuti to Gonja Sufi - this mix covers some serious territory.

The mix can be either streamed & downloaded direct from Percussion Lab, or played via the included embeddable player which invites the listener to explore the music further.

In Primus Luta's own words,
"To borrow from Me’Shell NdegéOcello, this is an anthropological mix, compiled at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. The goal was to capture the changing sound of music. A change that draws no lines of division. It is bound to no genre, no social group, global not regional. In a constant state of flux, it will only continue to evolve and grow. All of these mixes were done live using the custom application 'scrtch' developed in Plogue Bidule for the Monome and Stribe Duo.

There are some who are threatened by this type of change. They wish to deny it, holding to the comfort zones of the past. Then there are the others. The Vanguard. Those who see the potential and thrive.

This series brings together over 125 artists, each in their own way charting a path on this new musical frontier. Listen carefully and take notes because indeed, this is the sound of tomorrow, today."

Jeah, this Blue Notes Mixtape is hot as hell. =) I was just wondering why this speaker yells about the future but the minority of today's urban producers are creating their instruments from "the ground up". (with own drumsamples, a real bass ect.) Sure, this jazzy style has been the future many years ago but NOW i'm scared the "plastic-beats-era" will overcome all the creativity. I'm not talking about the mainstream. Btw.. The German HipHop Underground became "pop" with its sounds and its lyrical scum. HipHop is a zombie but some of us still got hope. ;)
