Rhythm Incursion's Laurent Fintoni 'discovered' Yosi Horikawa by way of the French producer Fulgeance (French producer). Working primarily with found sounds/recordings, Yosi's music has a pristine aesthetic sense that is both subtle and entrancing. This mix highlights his productions, which are featured Eklektik Records (FR) and on Japan's Low Vibes label. He's also a member of this year's Red Bull Music Academy Class, so this is quite a special mix from the up and coming producer.

Matt Deco, founder of LA's Deceast Recordings, drops the latest Percussion Lab feature mix in support of Deceast's most recent release, dec004, Deco & Linker's “Verus” / “Greenthumb Funk”, available today.

Deco is a stalwart of the LA dubstep and bass scenes, having moved to the Left Coast in 2007 after leaving his mark on Atlanta as a drum'n'bass dj and promoter. Since moving to LA, he's started Deceast, negotiated distro with ST Holdings, and played at major events all over the state.

Deco is a dj's dj, with deep, eclectic selections and a flawless mixing style. Check the fire on his first mix for Percussion Lab. Ranging from the ruffer dubstep sounds of NumberNin6 and Crushington to Silkie's trademark rollers and the contemplative dnb of Atlantic Connection, this mix is a quick snapshot of what's moving bodies in LA right now.

01. Numb...

It's fitting that the first feature mix we're posting after a long overdue site upgrade is by Nooka Jones. Nooka joined the Percussion Lab family as our 'intern' last Fall. He hasn't done much in the way of coffee retrieval, office sweeping, or other typical intern tasks; his duties more or less consist of straight rocking the opening slot (and sometimes the closing slot) of our weekly Monday night Percussion Lab Radio event.

Nooka is one of the most open and curious dj's I've met. His sets are defined by seamless mixes and a freakishly comprehensive knowledge of the history of dance music for a 23 year old. In his first (almost all vinyl!) mix for the site, Nooka goes the 'journey' route, choosing to cram all of his disparate influences and passions into a single mix.

Long story short, it works. From the funky abstract bubblings of Falty DL, Seafloor and Soul Clap, to the pure house stylings of Oliver $ and Catz n Dogs, to producers of the moment like Addison Groove, Boddika, and Sepalcure, he touches on all of the various genres and sounds that make up the wide open world club music is enjoying in a post-dubstep moment.
